Sternschnuppe meaning Shooting star in German is a firm cheese from Käsküche Isny, in the Allagau region of the Bavarian Alps, Germany. Made using raw cow's milk, the cheese is aged for a minimum of 3 months. During aging, it is brushed with red wine and herbs that gives a reddish brown rind to the cheese. Rough textured rind is slightly sticky while the golden paste buttery and firm with eyes and fissures spread all over. Sternschnuppe has mild, pungent aroma, rich, complex and meaty flavour with hints of caramel, nuts and broth.
